The Wordsmith

Poetry and Shorts by Brent Allen Bennett

Masochistic Tendencies

I’d be better off
If I could just leave you behind
Lock you somewhere
In the darkest corner
Of the dungeons in my mind
I can forgive
For the light I once was shown
But I don’t forget
I’m the proverbial elephant

The pain brought through the pleasure
That exquisite suffering
That only you can give to me
So much beauty
In such a nasty place
Why do I crave this?

I’d have to find me
A mask and a set of chains
So I could keep your face
As locked up as your body
Throw out the key
But knowing me I’d find it
Right next to the spine
I left right next to my heart

The pain brought through the pleasure
That exquisite suffering
That only you can give to me
So much beauty
In such a nasty place
Why do I crave this?

Why does suffering
Feel so noble?
Why do I need to hurt
Just so I can feel?
Why do I bleed
Just to know I’m alive?
Why do I crave this?
