The Man
Do you know what lies behind
These cold green eyes of mine
Tinted with the steely grey?
I thought I had it figured out
‘til I saw through my self doubt
Found the man that I want to be
Staring me dead in the eyes
When I walk to the mirror
I don’t know which man
Will be looking back
Catching ourselves in each other’s eyes
The son, the brother, the hypocrite
The lazy, no good piece of shit
Or the man I saw that night
Secrets betrayed or secrets held
In confidence by the ones you hold dear
Lies told in malice or to protect
Or let the guilty go unscathed
The man in the mirror today
Is not the man I thought I was
Is not the man I’m trying this hard to be
I try so hard for you
Maybe I should try a little more for me
It always seems that I’m the only one
Who I can never please
